DESCRIPTION


This experiment allows your student to appreciate first-hand what it takes to get airborne. This page explains how to conduct a model-making activity that must meet certain objectives. All required materials are specified.

Elements

Developing Demonstrated Applied Score
Student Understands that birds have a light body structure

Materials used in project parallel the body structure of a bird

Bird replicas reflect the concept that body structure determines movement/flight

Replicas reflect the concept that birds have hollow bones, feathers and do not have teeth

Student worked independently on project, utilizing National Aviary website and/or other resources to obtain a prototype

Bird design reflects experimentation to obtain mobile, airworthy model
