DESCRIPTION

This page gives your class the design of an experiment allowing students to go through the scientific process. This activity goes through a process of observing, asking questions and testing a hypothesis. Students should also analyze their information and share their results.

This activity is to be conducted outside. Materials you will need are listed.

BACKGROUND

Keep in mind that you may get different results at different times of the year, depending on where you live. Most of the northern U.S. will see fewer birds in the winter, and some exotic birds passing through during spring and fall. You will still draw birds in the winter, because food is otherwise quite scarce. You'll just get fewer species.

More detailed background information on what foods attract which birds is available at the activity "Backyard Birdfeeder." That activity also includes instructions for building a tray feeeder.
