Photo: Bird watchers in the fieldDid you know that, according to a survey by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, there are 51.3 million Americans who report that they watch birds? That makes birding the fastest-growing outdoor activity in America!

So what is bird watching?

Birdwatchers are people of all ages who enjoy observing and identifying birds in their natural habitats. In North America alone there are over 800 species of birds for you to watch! You can bird watch in your own backyard or at a nearby park. Many birdwatchers travel to see different birds in different environments.
