They custom-make cages for each patient with perches, plants, bathing areas, houses, heaters and special lighting to promote healing. Sick birds require more calories to heal, but often do not feel like eating. The keepers make special diets up to three times a day to encourage the birds to eat well. They also provide physical therapy for long-term disabled patients, including hydrotherapy for ducks and flight pens for post-surgical patients. As a result of this talented staff’s daily care and devotion, the Aviary’s sick and injured birds thrive and heal more quickly.
